About
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One is preparing final construction plans for the safety improvements proposed along Pine Island Road (SR 78) from east of Del Prado Boulevard to Hibiscus Drive. The proposed improvements also include an access modification which will include a median closure at the Lowe’s entrance along SR 78, the addition of a second eastbound left turn lane at Pondella Road,
the introduction of traffic channelization islands at the Del Prado Boulevard intersection and the introduction of a directional median island at the Hibiscus Drive intersection. Lighting, signalization and pedestrian improvements are also being proposed at various locations within the project limits.
Public Involvement
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting a public information meeting for the SR 78 Project from East of Del Prado Boulevard to Hibiscus Drive in Lee County. You can participate in the public meeting virtually or attend in-person. The virtual public meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. FDOT staff will present to the public and will host a live component from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm that will be open to comments from the public. Additionally, an in-person public information meeting will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Cape Coral Technical College at 360 Santa Barbara Boulevard N, Cape Coral, FL, 33993. The in-person meeting will be an open house format from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The proposed project includes preparing final construction plans for the addition of safety improvements on SR 78 from east of Del Prado Boulevard to Hibiscus Drive in Lee County. The SR 78 Public Information Meeting is being conducted to provide the public with an opportunity to express their views about the project. The public information meeting will include a viewing of the project video and a live question-and-answer component with the project team. All public information meeting materials will be available on the project website ahead of the public meeting. You may choose any combination of the options provided to review the materials and to submit your comments. Your input on the project is valuable and we invite you to provide us with your comments and feedback.

FDOT is sending notices to property owners, business owners, tenants, interested persons and organizations within 300-feet of the project to provide the public with project information and details on how to provide comments to FDOT regarding this project.
