About
Project Description
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One recently completed widening the second phase of State Road (SR) 542 (Dundee Road) from the City of Winter Haven to the Town of Dundee in Polk County, Florida on April 28, 2023. This phase extends from Buckeye Loop Road in Winter Haven to east of US 27 in the Town of Dundee. As part of this project, crews widened the road from two to four lanes, constructed an enclosed drainage system, installed a new signal at Overlook Drive and closed the Overlook Drive merge, added sidewalk, bike lanes and street lighting and installed utility improvements for the City of Winter Haven and Town of Dundee.
Project Improvements
Dundee Road improvements between Winter Haven and the Town of Dundee provide additional capacity to address:
- expected traffic demands within the corridor
- economic growth from Legoland and associated planned retail developments in Winter Haven
- future population growth in Polk County
- importance of a safer roadway and as a hurricane evacuation route
The SR 542 projects are consistent with the Polk Transportation Planning Organization's Momentum 2040 Plan, the county’s long range transportation plan.
Public Involvement
A virtual public meeting was held in September 2020 to allow interested parties to view information and ask questions about the project.
