BARTOW, Fla. – Motorists and pedestrians should be aware of a new mid-block crossing and Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) on U.S. 98 north of Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland. The PHB is set to be activated Monday, March 24, 2025. Located between West 2nd and West 5th streets, the beacon aims to help pedestrians safely cross U.S. 98 to reach Bryant Stadium and Henley Field.

The PHB features signal heads with two red lenses above a yellow lens mounted on an overhead mast arm. The signal stays dark until a pedestrian presses the call button to activate the beacon. Once activated, the beacon will flash yellow, followed by a solid yellow to warn vehicles to prepare to stop.

When the signal turns solid red and motorists stop, pedestrians can cross safely. Motorists and pedestrians should use caution as everyone adjusts to the new traffic pattern.
