MATLACHA, Fla. – To our valued community, we are pleased to share weekly updates on the ongoing construction of the Pine Island Bridge and the steps being taken to accelerate the project. We are committed to delivering this critical infrastructure as quickly as possible while ensuring quality and safety remain top priorities.

Phase 1 Update

We are aiming to complete Phase 1 by spring 2025 and are making significant progress on both the east and west sides of the bridge. Last week, we shared updates about adding more construction crews and mentioned nighttime work to help speed up the project. To clarify, crews will work some nights as needed, but there will not be overnight work. The schedule will depend on the specific tasks required.

East Side Work

Also, hurricane debris has been cleared. With the area now clear, construction crews have started installing the bulkhead pipe pile wall, completing more than half of the piles so far. Driving the bulkhead pipe pile wall is a critical step for stabilizing the foundation and ensuring the structural integrity of the bridge as it progresses.

Work has begun on placing large rocks (rip rap) to help protect the bridge and mitigate erosion. This includes bringing in extra equipment and checking the underwater ground levels.

West Side Work

Another team will be on-site to place rocks on the west side while work continues on the east side. By working on both sides at the same time, progress will stay on track without delays.

We understand the importance of this bridge to the community and are dedicated to its timely completion. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to rebuild stronger and better than before.

Stay tuned for future updates as we make progress on this critical project.
