WHEN: Starting Tuesday, March 7th at 7 p.m.
WHERE: Florida Avenue between Main Street and the CSX railroad tracks
LAKELAND, FL (March 6, 2023) - The City of Lakeland Wastewater Collection Division will need to repair a broken sewer lateral that is underneath Florida Avenue (SR 37) between Main Street and the CSX railroad tracks. The work is scheduled to now begin on Tuesday, March 7th around 7 p.m. and will continue until completion. Crews will remove the failed portion and replace it with a section of new pipe as part of the construction. Per revision plans with input from the Florida Department of Transportation who oversees traffic movement on Florida Avenue (SR 37), the emergency sewer repair will require a full closure instead of the lane shift that was originally planned. The full closure will increase safety for the work crews and provide a more efficient environment for the repair. The 24 hour per day closure is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7th and will go until completion. Repair crews anticipate that the full closure will allow for an earlier completion. Barring any unforeseen complications, the work should be completed by the end of the business week. The full closure of Florida Avenue will require a detour for through vehicular traffic from Florida Avenue using George Jenkins Boulevard, Sikes Boulevard, and Lime Street to route traffic around the work zone. Local traffic (non-through) will be able to access businesses adjacent to the work zone but will not be able to go through the work area. The sidewalk on the east side of Florida Avenue between Main Street and Pine Street will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be routed across the street to the sidewalk on the west side of Florida Avenue.
