LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is advising motorists of planned lane closures on westbound I-4 near Exit 38 in Lakeland due to repair work addressing a roadway depression.

Closure Details:

  • Date: Thursday, January 23, 2025
  • Time: 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Friday morning)
  • Lane Closures: The center and inside lanes will be closed. The outside lane and shoulder will remain open for commuters.

Reason for Work:
The depression in the roadway was caused by a utility bore performed in August. The utility company will conduct a Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) scan of the area to address the issue. Following the scan review, the repair process will include:

  • Determining the best course of action to fill the void beneath the road.
  • Adding asphalt to smooth the roadway surface as a temporary measure until a mill and resurface of the area can be scheduled.

Motorist Information:

  • Delays are expected during the work period.
  • Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes or plan for extra travel time.
  • For real-time updates, call 511 or visit www.fl511.com.

FDOT appreciates your patience as we work to ensure the safety and functionality of the roadway.
