FDOT/Town of Longboat Key Issue Warning on Illegal Dumping of Debris
LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation and the Town of Longboat Key are reminding residents of proper procedures for debris disposal along state roads and warning against illegal dumping practices.
Debris Pickup on State Roads: Residents are advised that debris from private properties should be properly separated into two distinct piles for efficient pickup:
- Vegetation: This includes tree limbs, branches, and other organic materials.
- Building Materials: Construction debris such as wood, drywall, and general trash.
Proper Placement: Debris should be placed by the right-of-way for pickup, but residents must ensure that the debris does not block or cover sidewalks. This helps maintain safety and accessibility for all residents.
Warning on Illegal Dumping: It is important for residents to note that only properties with addresses directly on the state right-of-way are permitted to place debris in these areas. Transporting debris from a different property to the state right-of-way constitutes illegal dumping. Those found doing so may be required to return the debris to their property or face fines for illegal dumping.
This announcement is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and cleanliness of our community. Thank you for your cooperation.
