BARTOW, Fla. – Starting Monday, August 5, motorists on CR 664 (County Line Road) just outside of Bowling Green, Florida, will find themselves rerouted as crews close the road and begin removing the 66-year-old bridge over the Peace River in Polk and Hardee Counties. The Florida Department of Transportation Project is anticipated to take approximately 13-months to complete pending weather or other unforeseen circumstances during construction.

The existing bridge has two 12-foot travel lanes. The new bridge will also have two 12-foot lanes with added 8-foot shoulders on each side of the bridge. As part of the project, the bridge approaches will be reconstructed, new guardrail installed and a new maintenance connection road constructed, all to improve safety and significantly reduce maintenance.

The eastbound posted detour has motorists traveling north or south on US 17 to Hardee Street, heading east on Hardee Street, then south on Lake Branch Road to Platt Road, north on Platt Road back to County Line Road.

The westbound detour directs County Line Road motorists south on Platt Road to Lake Branch Road, west on Lake Branch Road to Hardee Street, west on Hardee Street to US 17 and north on US 17 back to County Line Road.
