BARTOW, Fla.: Work on the I-4 interchange at SR/CR 557 in Polk County will require double lane closures this week; and, an eastbound entrance ramp with double lane closures on I-4 next week. These double lane closures and ramp closures will take place between the hours of 10 p.m. –  6 a.m.

  • Thursday night, October 26 into Friday morning, October 27, motorists should expect double lane closures from the I-4 eastbound rest area through the interchange as crews remove temporary barrier wall and continue paving the new eastbound I-4 lanes.
  • Tuesday night, October 31 and Wednesday night, November 1, the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp at SR/CR 557 will be CLOSED as crews continue paving the new eastbound I-4 lanes and work on connecting the ramp to the new lanes.
    • RAMP DETOUR: Northbound motorists traveling on SR/CR 557 wanting to enter I-4 eastbound will detour at CR 557A and turn left (west) to SR 559 and turn left (south) to enter I-4 eastbound. Southbound motorists can follow the same detour or enter I-4 westbound to SR 559, exit the interstate and reenter the interstate headed east.
  •  Thursday, November 2, expect double eastbound I-4 lane closures as the contractor ties in the west end of the new I-4 eastbound lanes.

This project includes reconstructing the interchange from an existing cloverleaf interchange to a diamond interchange with dog bone shaped roundabouts at the ramps, replacing the two-lane bridge with a four-lane bridge, modifying SR 557 and I-4 within the interchange area and adding a new wildlife crossing under I-4.
