US 41 Complete Streets Corridor Study

FAQs

Are the ideas presented in the Alternatives page the final concepts that will be developed?

The Study Team worked with Manatee County staff, City of Sarasota staff, and the Steering Committee members to develop the final recommendation in the report. The final report does not selected one specific preferred alternatives, but rather provides a menu of options supported by the local governments, stakeholders and the public that will be further evaluated and through a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study. During the next stages of the project, there will be multiple opportunities for public engagement and concept development.

What will be the results of this Study?

The end goal of the Study is to define a set of improvement strategies that are implementable and supported by the local governments, major stakeholders and the community. The study aims to determine the types of improvements that can be implemented at major intersections as well as the number of vehicular travel lanes needed, median type, bicycle facility types. During Concept Development or a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will take the concepts developed through this study and further refine alternatives, determine the environmental impacts of the alternatives, and engage the community to get more feedback on the alternatives.

Who funded this Study and why?

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 1, funded the study in response to requests for better access by local partners and to address documented safety concerns.

Who will determine which improvement strategies move forward?

FDOT will continue to work with the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization and local governments to further refine and implement recommendations.

How will we fund any improvements coming out of this Study?

Funding will depend on the type of improvements identified. Some of the intersection or safety improvements may be completed by FDOT with available funds. Any major reconstruction of roadway segments, landscaping, or multiuse trails will require funding from the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization and may be facilitated by support from the local partners.
