Project Description

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is designing improvements on US 41 from Caribbean Drive to SR 72 (Stickney Point Road) in Sarasota County.

The proposed design includes resurfacing of the road to provide 6-foot-wide shoulders that will be utilized as 6-foot-wide buffered bike lanes, and the widening of the right-turn lanes to accommodate the new bike lanes. It will also construct 6-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the highway to improve safety for multimodal transportation on this corridor.

Modification of pedestrian sidewalk ramps will take place throughout the project to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, and driveways will be modified as needed to accommodate the new sidewalks and to bring them up to current design standards. FDOT will also construct transit shelter pads and boarding pads along the corridor.

Construction of these improvements is estimated at $4.57 million and the FDOT anticipates construction to start Summer 2022.
