About

The proposed roadway improvement will accommodate projected travel demand, specifically increased freight and commuter traffic, improve safety conditions, and enhance emergency evacuation for the Southwest Florida region as well as address a need for improved regional connectivity.

The SR 29 PD&E Study from I-75 to Oil Well Road is included in the Collier Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and is consistent with Collier County's adopted Growth Management Plan. The MPO is currently in the process of developing their 2045 LRTP.

The objective of the PD&E Study is to provide documented information necessary for FDOT to reach a decision on the type, design, and location of improvements to SR 29 for acceptance by the FDOT Office of Environmental Management. A series of reports will be prepared documenting the preliminary engineering and design concept. These will include existing and predicted conditions, typical sections, right-of-way requirements, environmental impacts and costs of the improvement and its alternatives.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by FDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. § 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 14, 2016, and executed by FHWA and FDOT.
